Try Using a Grim Reaper Costume

So, have you ever considered using a Grim Reaper costume for Halloween? Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Usually, I spend a few weeks before just preparing for it. I make the best Halloween costume I can, and I usually get some very positive reactions. Nevertheless, last year there was a change. I was just coming into town the week before Halloween from an extended business trip, and I knew I would have no time to put together a costume. I had to find something that I could assemble quickly, but that was still impressive and in the spirit of the holiday. That is why I wore a Grim Reaper costume.

Making a Grim Reaper Costume

A Grim Reaper costume is actually a pretty easy thing to assemble. If you want to keep it very basic, you can get by with a cloak with a dark hood and some face paint. Add a scythe and you’ve gone a bit further. For my Grim Reaper Halloween costume, however, I wanted to get a better effect. I wanted to look truly creepy. I decided to shave my head and paint my entire face white with black outlines around my eye sockets and my nose. I painted my hands in a similar style to give a skeleton look to my fingers. It was done in a subtle way – I have a friend who is a great make up artist – so that it wasn’t immediately apparent. At first glance, I looked a little pale and sickly. It was only at second glance when I appeared as if my bones were showing through.

Needless to say, my Grim Reaper costume was a big success. Grim Reaper costumes and other distinctly scary costumes usually are. Even if you don’t put that much effort into it, people love to see scary Halloween costumes like ghosts and goblins and ghouls of all kinds. I was lucky enough to be the only person at the costume party that I was at with a Reaper costume.

I had been to Halloween parties before with three or four different people all dressed up in a Grim Reaper costume, and I was afraid that was going to be the deal today. It is nice to be at least somewhat unique, even if your home made costume is not very original. And thanks to my friend, I had one of the best Grim Reaper costumes there were. Few people take time to get the makeup right, and doing so made me outshine most of the other Reaper costumes who were out that night.

I saw this idea put to good use a few years back at a Halloween party when a friend of mine showed up with her newborn in a baby Halloween costume. She was a martini glass, and her son was an olive. It worked perfectly and hilariously, and while it may not have been the best costume of the night it was certainly up there.

Of course Halloween costumes for infants don’t have to be group costume events, though considering that your infant will likely not remember what you did or didn’t dress them as, I say it’s best to come up with a theme the whole group can enjoy. Plus, later in life, you can show them pictures of their infant Halloween costumes when you dressed them up for Halloween. Any parent should enjoy the chance to do that!

Cereal Killer– put individial boxed cereals on a shirt ( i used velcro) and stick with a plastic knife

Black Eyed P- Blacked your eye. Put a P on the middle of your shirt

Domino- put 2 black dots in the middle of a white Shirt

M&M- take a plastic garbage bag, cut out a hole in the top for your head an 1 on each side for your arms and tape 2 M’s and an & on the front made of construction paper

Lucky Strike Cigarettes -Make a placard with 2 pieces of heavy carboard paper , fashion straps to go across your shoulders and put the lucky strike logo ( a red circle) on each side

Wings are pretty easy to find or you can make your own with wire and a mesh like material. Creepy food, a Jello mold of a brain or internal organs! These can be picked up at your local halloween store or party store!

For decorations use the classic carved pumpkins and as many candles as you can find, these are quite inexpensive and really set the mood. If you don’t want a house full of burning candles then grab some left over holiday lights and go that route.
Also, fake spider webs, black drapes or table cloths and of couse plenty of music and fun DVD’s!

Do you friends DARE you to do things interesting or scary?

I accepted a dare to wear a particulary revealing costume on Halloween.
I used to be super skinny and got made fun of. Then I developed, or rather over-developed, when I was just past 13 and I got teased terribly for that. For years I was very sensitive about it. Then this year my friend and my cousin dared me to wear this costume to the Halloween party. They were playing but it still bothered me, but I decided that yes I would accept the dare and I wore it to the party. You see it was a silver colored extreme micro-kini, I mean like really way less than any bikini.
It’s like 3 tiny triangles connected with string, 2 on top with each chest and 1 on bottom with a gstring. And my head was covered with a silver robot mask, you couldn’t see my face or hair. I only stayed for about an hour. Danced one dance (very carefully) with my cousin. I could see people were like wow i can’t believe it what is she wearing. My friend and cousin new I had been so oversensitive about being so unusually endowed I was for several years and they really sort of respected me that I accepted the dare tol the party like that.
You know I honestly believe that no teasing of any kind is going to bother me again after that. I think I shook it all off.
